Fast Weight Loss

fast weight loss is as likely as outrunning a cheetahLooking for fast weight loss?

Wondering whether you can get rid of some, most or all of that unwanted stuff around your middle - and pronto?

Is it even possible?

Here are a couple of points to ponder:

  1. You want to believe that it's possible, or you would not be reading this page

  2. There are lots of unscrupulous companies who want to sell you a product that claims to offer you speedy weight loss

Fast Weight Loss Products

So, what’s available out there?

  • There are products that claim to put the brakes on your appetite.

  • There are products that swell in your stomach and make you feel full.

  • There are products that contain almost no nutrients, so you can eat mountains of them and yet take in hardly any calories…

The list goes on and on. The only thing to be said about many of the items is that they’ve been around for a long time. Very few, if any, of the products and methods on offer are actually new. Of course, they’re now marketed as ‘scientific’, ‘breakthrough’, ‘cutting-edge’ – in fact, they use all the trigger words that have been found to be effective in converting hopeful readers into paying customers... Including 'fast weight loss'.

Let’s look at the problems with these fast weight loss methods, at any rate as regards most people who might use them.

Curbing your appetite

Why do most of us get overweight? Because we like eating.

We eat for lots of different reasons, but most of them have to do with the reward or comfort that food offers.

So if something curbs your desire for food, what happens to the mood swings that the food used to satisfy? Nothing – you still want ‘emotionally’ to eat, whether you feel like eating or not. And the outcome? It’s unlikely that this method will work in the long term.

Stomach fillers

These products suffer partly from the problem outlined above; that it’s the 'reward' aspect of eating that snags most of us. So when that’s removed, you still feel somehow cheated or unsatisfied. You may never feel empty, but neither will you ever feel content. So this is another approach that’s unlikely to offer sustained success.
(There are also stirrings within the medical community that this sort of product could eventually lead to blocking of the gut: just imagine the health complications that could bring about!)

Calorie-free foods

Think about this for a moment. What do you like about eating? I bet it’s the flavour, the texture, the sheer sensuality of your favourite foods. What do you imagine is the reward for eating stuff that has no nutritional value and is flavoured only with calorie-free chemicals? Does it sound like a lifestyle choice you could stick with? If not, then it’s not going to work for you.

So what’s the truth about fast weight loss?

Well, it may be disappointing to learn, but if you are really looking to shed masses of unwanted weight in only a few weeks (which is what fast weight loss means), then it’s unlikely to happen.

Here’s why (and also what you can do about it):

If you stand on the scales on day 1 and again 30 days later, and you learn that you’re 30 pounds lighter, it’s unlikely to be only fat that you have lost.
This is an important point to grasp because, although most people talk and think about weight loss, what they are really seeking to achieve is a reduction in body fat.

Those two aims are not the same.

If 10 of the 30 pounds you dropped was water (reasonably likely) then it’ll all go back on again when your body rehydrates.

And if a few pounds of what you lost was muscle (also quite likely) then that’s even worse! Muscle burns more calories than fat, so you’ve just spent a miserable month eating weight loss products and now your body is even less efficient at burning calories (and therefore body fat) than when you started!

Ouch! What a waste of effort.

And the answer to the problem?

Fast Weight Loss - The Alternative

You need a method that allows you to lose body fat at the optimum rate. That means most of what you lose is fat, a little might be water – but as little as possible should be muscle!

It may be disappointing that you can’t get into great shape in only 3 weeks (or a month or 2 months, or whatever crazy thing the ads promise)…

… but is that more upsetting than ending up next year, even heavier and more out of shape than you are now? (And that after a long period of avoiding good food and eating stuff you didn't like).

In other words, is looking great this summer (or at that wedding, or whatever other target date you’ve set yourself) more important that looking great for the rest of your life, in good health, and enjoying your food?

'Short-termism' is over-optimistic and rarely works. Fast weight loss is the same. Every time you lose weight that way, you make your body less efficient at burning calories. Ask yourself: is that really worth it?

Why you feel tempted by 'fast weight loss' ads.

There are increasing numbers of people who yearn for fast weight loss.
In fact, there are so many out there that a whole set of industries has made a good living for decades, selling sure-fire solutions to problems of excess weight.
Most are ineffective. They’re like the stop-smoking methods that can’t prevent you from becoming addicted again. They are not, in other words, worth your time. Or your hard-earned money.

What about some good news, instead of all this negativity?

Okay, here goes -

The Way Forward

You probably have everything you need for successful weight loss, right now, within reach of wherever you’re seated.

Not, you’ll note, everything you need for fast weight loss, which is a cruel myth and an impossibility (unless you step too close to a bacon slicer).

What I mean is effective, sustainable loss of body fat, so that you change your shape. Which means a healthier, happier, more vibrant you.

We humans, in our modern, consumerist cultures, want to think that if there’s something wrong with our lives, there’s some product out there that, if we could just get our hands on it, would cure our dissatisfactions.

Whereas, in fact, the answer to most of our problems lies right between our ears. And it’s what sets us apart from all other species on the planet. It’s the faculty of reason – and it’s provided by your brain.

Accepting the obvious (about fast weight loss)

As soon as you convince yourself not to feel desperate enough to try just about any old thing to achieve your weight loss aims, you’ll be able to see and to accept this truth:

Only if you can keep the weight off in the long term is it worth losing it. (What’s the point in torturing yourself or spending a fortune if you’ll end up even heavier in one, two or three years time?)

How tricky is that to grasp?

Not very, when you think about it.

What you need is not a fast weight loss product. What you need is an effective weight loss program. A program that offers the optimum method for losing body fat and keeping it off. One that is adjustable to suit YOU, both as you are now, and as you’ll be during the various stages of your weight loss campaign. And one that will still suit you when you’ve dropped the weight and are looking to maintain your success.

Can that work?

Yes. There’s a correct way to eat for how you are now. Then, when you’re 20 pounds lighter, you'll need to adjust your food intake. And again when you’re another 20 pounds lighter – and so on.

There’s also a correct way to exercise. That means not overdoing it and wasting muscle off your body, as so many people do when they try to lose weight through exercise. (Of course, too little exercise will also be ineffective, but you’ll be surprised to learn how little is ‘just enough’).

And the key to the whole thing is: consistency.

The sad truth is that most people who diet fail. Because they give up the effort for a variety of reasons. Usually because the diet regime becomes depressing. It’s just too boring, unsatisfying and emotionally unrewarding.

In addition, their efforts are misguided, because most people are weight-obsessed.

Think about that; why are you wanting to lose weight? Is it so that you can weigh only ‘X’ pounds? Or is it to look good and to feel good about how you look?
So, why would weighing ‘X’ pounds help? Unless you wear a sign around your neck, nobody is going to be any the wiser. But, everyone will know it when you look good and are confident about your appearance.

So why sweat about Fast Weight Loss?

You could weigh 200 pounds and be completely out of shape. Or you could weigh 200 pounds and look and feel great because you have a shapely body that isn’t encased in excess fat and has the necessary muscle to give it a pleasing contour. Two different ‘looks’ and one common weight.

See my point? Fast weight loss is not only a myth, it’s a meaningless target.

If you want something to aim at, choose body shape. And that’s achieved by ensuring that it’s fat you’re shedding, not just ‘weight’.
