I think so, and it's so obvious that, when you read about it, you may be tempted to kick yourself! Weight Loss Number 1 Secret - Wrong ApproachThe fact is that most of us approach weight loss as a form of knee-jerk reaction. We decide on the spur of the moment that we've had enough of being overweight. And we launch straight into whatever weight loss program takes our fancy (more likely, the one that's being hyped the most right at that time). This is a bad approach for a number of reasons, but here are two that are most important:
Which means that you miss out on the number one weapon in your weight loss armoury (coincidentally, the weight loss number 1 secret): Consistency As I mentioned earlier, it's obvious if you think about it. What did you do to put on that extra weight? You consistently ate the wrong things in the wrong amounts. And you consistently added body fat to your frame... ... see the connection? Successful weight loss (that is, shedding body fat) is the reverse, or mirror, of that process. You consistently eat the right things in the right amounts and - hey presto! - you consistently get the desired effect. Now, it's important to understand just what consistency means. It doesn't mean sticking to some celebrity-endorsed diet that promises to slice one hundred pounds off your frame inside six weeks. Even the desperate know deep down that such an approach is impossibly silly. No, consistency means doing it right over the long run. Which is why the short-termism of all crash diets is guaranteed never to work as you want it to - which is, keeping that lost weight where it belongs... gone! Weight Loss Number 1 Secret - ConsistencySo how do you achieve consistency in your weight loss campaign? It's a four-step approach: Planning - this means not deciding to lose weight one day and the next plunging into some crazy scheme, or buying any of the useless weight loss product that is hyped everywhere. Adaptation - this requires that you exercise a little patience and get yourself into the right frame of mind for losing weight successfully. It also means no drastic reductions in calorie intake that might shock your body into 'starvation mode' where it hangs onto body fat at all costs. Realism - we're all human, so don't adopt any schemes that call for superhuman willpower or effort. You'll only be disappointed when you crack. Much better to plan for the occasional lapse (since then it's not a real lapse) and just ensure that you do the right stuff for the majority of the time. You should also tailor any cardio exercise you do to a sensible level. Your body can't go from zero to an Olympics-style training regime in a few days, or even weeks. Acceptance - which includes a bit of humility. None of us got to be overweight by accident or through somebody else's efforts. By the same token, we each represent our only personal hope of redemption in the weight loss stakes. There are no magic cures, no instant answers and no short-term measures that will do any good in the long term. Weight Loss Number 1 Secret - What Next?Once you've got your mind in shape, it's time to start on that body. You need to establish what you should be eating and when in order to kick off your successful (and final) weight-loss campaign.
